HISTORY REPEATING...

A fabulous 1934 Chicago Tribune cartoon that has recently been making the rounds in the blogosphere as an example of history sadly repeating itself was marvelously rerun at the paper's website on June 10.

In it, members of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's administration are seen shoveling money out of a wagon with a billboard on the side declaring, "Depleting the resources of the soundest government in the world."

On Wednesday, the Trib reprinted the cartoon with the caption "This is a 1934 Chicago Tribune political cartoon that many say rings true in today's political and economic climate. What do you think?" (full, largely legible print below the fold along with an explanation of the characters uncovered by The Federal Observer, h/t NBer Gary Hall):

The man in the mortarboard flogging the Democratic donkey is Rex
Tugwell, the leader of FDR’s “Brain Trust”, a character out of academia.
The Brain Trust was supposed to come up with new ideas to help America. The two mortarboard-wearing kids in the wagon represent recent Ivy League college graduates hired to staff the New Deal.

The cartoonist from the conservative Chicago Tribune, Mr. Orr, is calling them socialist “pinkos” (term that wasn’t then in use, “pinkies’ is what Orr called them). [...]

The most prominently featured man shoveling money off the wagon is Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace, who was known for his socialist leanings.

Most us are aware that FDR confiscated gold in 1934, but most people are not aware that the gold confiscation was a clause in the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1934. It is also important to remember that 90% of the American population lived on farms during the Depression.

The man behind Wallace is Harold L. Ickes, Secretary of the Interior and director of the Public Works Administration. As head of the PWA, Ickes had a lot of say on what and where public works projects were built. The biggest of course was the Tennessee Valley Authority. Ickes was well-known for backing many other socialist endeavors. Ickes was also the father of Harold M. Ickes, a key player in the Clinton administration.

The other man behind Wallace was a mystery to me. In fact, I had trouble reading the label on him in the cartoon. That man is Donald Richberg, who was called “assistant president” in the FDR administration. Both he and Ickes came through Chicago politics and were leaders of the Progressive movement there. Both Ickes and Richberg were key players in pushing the National Industrial Recovery Act which imposed fascist codes of conduct on American industry which dictated how key industries in America were to be run. The National Recovery Administration was ultimately struck down by the Supreme Court in 1935, which decision led to FDR’s effort to “pack” the Supreme Court with more cooperative justices.

The significance of this cartoon is that it depicts the visible signs of manipulation by the financial elite that runs America, which was in full control of the country back during the Depression, for decades before that and for the decades leading up to the present.

Defense Department encorachment into civilian law enforcement

The Constitution forbids civilian-military partnerships in criminal law enforcement operations.

The mission of the DEFENSE DEPARTMENT is to defend America against her foreign and domestic enemies...the DOD mission does not extend to enforcing her CRIMINAL laws!

These admissions are very serious:

"Today's announcement demonstrates that our commitment to rooting out fraud in the Department of the Army is stronger than ever," said Brigadier General Rodney Johnson, the commanding general of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. "This plea agreement should send a crystal clear message that we will aggressively pursue allegations of wrongdoing wherever the leads take our special agents. We will continue our fight against fraud and our unwavering commitment to the Department of Justice and our fellow agencies who stand shoulder to shoulder with us in this fight.

"Today's criminal action demonstrates the ongoing commitment of SIGIR and the U.S. Army -- Criminal Investigation Command to aggressively pursue those who have committed fraud and bribery in connection with the U.S.-funded effort to rebuild Iraq," said Stuart W. Bowen, Jr., Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR). "We owe nothing less to the dedicated military and civilian personnel, and contractors who are serving, or have served, in Iraq, and to the Iraqis, and, of course, to the U.S. taxpayers."

Brigadier General (one star) Rodney Johnson and Inspector General Stuart W. Bowen perjure their oaths to the Constitution. If We The People do not repair this serious breech of the civil-military relationship, it will widen to the complete abandonment of our constitutionally founded government.

Crimes committed against the U.S. government--no matter the branch of government--are actionable in peacetime only by civilian law enforcement officials.

Our Constitution commands it.

Now you have broken in and entered the White House by force of contrivance, concealment, conceit, dissembling, and deceit. Posing as an impostor president and commander in chief you have stripped civilian command and control over the military establishment. Known military criminal actors—command racketeers—are now free in the exercise of military government intent upon destruction of America’s constitutional government.

Free from constitutional restraint, and following your criminal example, military commanders deployed U.S. Army active duty combat troops into the small civilian community of Samson, Alabama last week in a demonstration of their newly received despotic, domestic police power.

We come now to this reckoning. I accuse you and your military-political criminal assistants of TREASON. I name you and your military criminal associates as traitors. TO THE ELECTORS FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES THIS DEMAND IS ADVANCED IN OBEDIANCE TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES:

I demand, writing as a fellow Citizen, each individual ELECTOR in each of the fifty United States certify MR. BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA’S eligibility to hold the Office of President of the United States.

I further insist all evidence used in certifying MR. BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA’S eligibility to hold the Office of President of the United States be directed to the Vice President as President of the Senate and made publicly available for Citizen inspection.

“No Person except a natural born Citizen shall be eligible to the Office of the United States” (Article II, the United States Constitution).

ELECTORS for President are the ultimate arbiters in certifying a candidate’s eligibility to hold the Office of President. You are invested with absolute authority and responsibility in determining eligibility.
