Lance Cpl. Jerry E. Shumate Jr., an infantryman with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, was arraigned this morning in a Pendleton courtroom. He is charged with premeditated murder, conspiracy, kidnapping, assault, housebreaking and larceny in the April 25 death of Hashim Ibrahim Awad.
