Akbar a poor performer; not recommended for deployment

FORT KNOX, Ky. - Several days before the fatal grenade and gunfire attack on March 23 at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait, 1st Lt. John W. Evangalista was concerned that one of his soldiers was ''depressed and suicidal.''

The soldier was Sgt. Hasan Akbar of Alpha Company, 326th Engineer Battalion. Akbar is charged with the attack that killed two and injured 14.
