ANG Pilots may be charged with manslaguter

WASHINGTON (AP) - Two Air National Guard pilots may face criminal charges for their roles in a bombing that killed four Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan.

The inquiry that was completed in June determined that Schmidt and Umbach were largely to blame for the mistaken attack, although it also found undisclosed problems in the pilots' command structure.

Senators demand info on 'enemy combatants'

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 (UPI) --Two powerful senators are demanding explanations from Attorney General John Ashcroft and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld as to why two United States citizens have been detained as "enemy combatants" -- a Bush administration designation that condemns them to a legal limbo in which they have no access to their attorneys or the evidence or the charges against them.

It's time the Congress started paying as much attention to the U.S. military justice system. There is no sweeping body of law the Congress has concerned itself with less than that goverining the scope and operation of the American Armed Forces.

Navy submariner pleads guilty to possessing military secrets

SAN DIEGO (AP) - A Navy submariner pleaded guilty to charges he improperly possessed defense secrets and stole government-owned computer hard drives, which he later sold on the Internet.
