Bush: Interrogation vital - Nation/Politics - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper:

"Congress has got a decision to make: Do you want the program to go forward or not? I strongly recommend that this program go forward in order for us to be able to protect America," Mr. Bush said during a Rose Garden press conference."

JAG Hunter here: Actually, there are several decisions to be made. The commander in chief can protect America by immediately declaring enemy combatants as Prisoners of War (under America's Articles of War-- the Uniform Code of Military Justice). Our chief executive owes an explanation as to why he's not acted to bring our enemies under UCMJ jurisdiction, whereupon they can be stood before courts-martial instantly.

For the Congress the historical irony is that our federal legislators have spent an order of magnitude more time wringing their hands over terrorist treatment than ever spent seriously considering the abuses visited upon our fighting forces and their families by military commanders and their staff JAGs.

Time for a priority check doncha think?
